Antique Dutch Cross Pendant

An antique Dutch 19th century cross pendant created with fine wire and cannetille work. This lovely antique cross is beautifully decorated with a repoussé design throughout the cross, a technique of metalworking in which the gold is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create this design in low relief. Repoussé is a French term meaning "pushed up". The cannetille and hammered figures are flanked by fine filigree wirework and the so-called spiders or small flower knots. This beautiful handmade gold cross pendant dates from the second half of the 19th century. The cross is in superb condition, what is really important because restauration is nearly impossible.
