The brooch is made of a real shell set in 18 carat gold. The shell is decorated with 10 carved ruby's with a total weight of approximately 13 carat. Andrew Grima (31 May 1921 – 26 December 2007) was an artisan and designer of British Royal jewellery. He became the foremost modern jewellery designer in the West End of London in the 1960s and 1970s, selling designs from his exclusive gallery in Jermyn Street, Mayfair.
