Gold, diamond, pearl and Plique-a-Jour enamel Art Nouveau brooch. Plique-a-Jour is the French for "letting in daylight". This term is used to describe the technique of enamelling where the enamel has no backing, this allows light to shine through the piece similar to stained-glass windows. This example is from the 1890’s and depicts a lady against an enamel flower background. The lady is wearing a diamond necklace made of minute rose cut diamonds.
